Apogo APO-go

(active ingredient apomorphine) is a drug that works by mimicking the activity of dopamine in the brain.

Apo-Go is given subcutaneously and its absorption does not depend on the functioning of the digestive system, therefore, its treatment allows for rapid relief from symptoms.

A response to the administration of the Apo-Go is expected within a time of between 4-12 minutes.

The treatment is non-invasive and completely reversible.

Apo-Go is included in the health basket for Parkinson's patients whose motor and non-motor signs of their disease are not optimally controlled by treatment with oral drugs (pills/tablets).

It is important to note that apomorphine is a preparation that does not resemble morphine in its effect at all. It is not addictive and has no effect on pain.

Apo-Go is available in two forms of administration suitable for different stages of Parkinson's disease, a pen-shaped syringe or a pump.

1.      pen - could fit to:

- Patients who have a delayed response to their levodopa doses in the morning or during the day, those who wait more than 30 minutes for a response

- Patients who fall into an unexpected OFF state or who feel that the effect of the drug ends earlier than expected

- Patients who need immediate and reliable relief from "OFF" symptoms (for example, during a social event or outside their home)

2.      pump - intended for patients who have many motor fluctuations that impair function and quality of life during the day.

The pump drips the medicine continuously, thus moderating the motor fluctuations. The treatment with the Apo-Go pump can lead to a reduction of the disturbing dyskinesias (involuntary movements), and sometimes even to a significant reduction in the dose of the additional drugs in accordance with the recommendation of the attending physician.

The pump is light, sized like a mobile phone, and is specially designed to be carried throughout the day, either with it on the belt, or with a lanyard around the neck.

Initiation of treatment

Each patient reacts to a different dose, therefore starting the Apo-Go treatment will be done in the clinic or in a day hospital.

Adjusting the treatment of the pen takes between 2-4 hours.

Treatment adjustment of the pump takes two to three days, usually in a day hospital.

Side effects that may appear:

- Nausea, therefore it is recommended to take an anti-nausea medicine in the first weeks of treatment with Apogo.

- A drop in blood pressure, so it is recommended to sit for a few minutes during and after the injection.

- Feeling sleepy which disappears within a few days when the body gets used to the medicine

- Irritation or sensitivity of the skin at the injection sites which can be alleviated with the help of massage, good hygiene, changing the place of treatment and more.
