"Directions" program

Continuous physical activity – Helps maintain the physical condition of the body and even affects mood and even cognition. The spectrum of physiological disabilities among patients is extremely broad, as is the mix of physical activities suitable for Parkinson's sufferers.
The rule of thumb regarding the recommended duration of physical activity says that one should engage in such activity for at least an hour a day, 5 times a week, meaning about 300 minutes a week in total.

It is advisable to vary the types of activity. Vigorous running or walking, exercises to strengthen the back and abdominal muscles and maintain their flexibility. Physiotherapy and hydrotherapy are also considered highly effective sports activities. You can combine game activities such as table tennis, which was discovered to be a sport that significantly improves mobility, stability, and even the course of the disease due to the building of new neurons.

You can Dance In a variety of dance disciplines such as modern dance, Gaga dance, Niye or ballroom dancing – all will do an excellent job of improving cardiopulmonary endurance, and improving mobility and stability of Parkinson's sufferers, and even improving and preserving cognitive function. More limited patients will do what is possible: exercises while sitting or lying down, or with the help of a chair and other furniture – for them it is highly recommended to participate inThe Precinct Circles Zoom.

It is recommended to consult with a fitness trainer or a physiotherapist - for assistance, see above. The 12 Week Challenge"To build a weekly physical activity plan with the guidance of a physical therapist."

The goal of the Directions program: to enable and assist each participant to act and achieve an optimal quality of life by strengthening the body and mind and connecting to a supportive community.

The Contestant's Journey:

It begins with a diagnosis of Parkinson's by a neurologist/family doctor, continues with strict adherence to medication when necessary, and continues with monitoring.
On a continuous exercise routine.

We recommend that you join a supportive community of your choice – a community of veterans, young people, or a community active in physical activity groups such as dance, swimming, table tennis, and more.

To benefit from a subsidized referral package, you must register as a member of the Parkinson's Association in Israel. Please click HERE To register new members.

The program is designed to allow every contestant to benefit from a supportive envelope, which will help everyone in a modular way to achieve the following goals:

  • Improving physical fitness while instilling habits for continuous physical activity.
  • Assistance and support for new contestants up to two years after the discovery of the disease, in the first steps after the discovery of the disease.
  • A connection to the Parkinson's community, so that each contender knows that he is not alone, and that by his side is a supportive and strengthening community that holds social gatherings and joint learning about coping methods.
  • Support workshops for those facing challenges and their families, to receive tools for effective coping.
  • Assistance and guidance in exercising rights.

The program was developed based on Vision of the Parkinson's Association in Israel Which focuses on four main topics:

  1. Expanding clinical care
  2. Diversity of Parkinson's communities nationwide
  3. Expanding the variety of sports activities
  4. Mental support for contestants and their families

What do the contestants who passed the pilot say?
