Duodopa pump

  • Duodopa is intended for the treatment of Parkinson's disease in an advanced stage, which responds to treatment with levodopa, accompanied by abnormal and severe hypermobility and involuntary movement disorders when existing combinations of medical preparations for the treatment of Parkinson's were not effective.
  • The Duodopa pump drips the drug/gel continuously and continuously, directly into the intestine (bypassing the stomach) and allows accurate administration of a dose adapted to the patient.
  • The active ingredients in the gel are: levodopa and carbidopa.
  • Duodopa was taken as a single treatment, monotherapy, in most patients.
  • The pump is used during the day only.

Every Duodopa patient is entitled to accompaniment and support from a Duodopa specialist nurse throughout all stages of treatment, including home visits, which allow for maximum efficiency of the treatment.

Side Effects

Levodopa gel administered through the intestine has the same side effects as levodopa tablets administered orally.
Phenomena related to the pump and the tube such as: slight contamination of the opening around the tube.
